What Is Swine Flu?

The swine flu is an influenza virus that was originally found in pigs. Although it is rare, humans can contract it from swine when coming in contact with pork meat processing. The human to human version of the swine flu is passed on from person to person by personal contact and by breathing the air where someone has been present with the disease. Like any other flu virus, it can give you a fever with chills, sore throat proceeding to a cough and general feeling of being unwell. For the most part, the swine flu will affect the population much like typical seasonal flu, which makes some part of the population ill with only a small proportion suffering anything more than an inconvenience. Some 50,000 individuals worldwide died of “typical” flu last year. Children and the elderly are of particular concern for contracting it.
